Record the employer's Section 2 certification on a worker's current Form I-9, completing the form.
Use this endpoint to complete a worker's Form I-9 by supplying the employer's side of the form: the certification at the bottom of Section 2, the "Additional Information" box, and the alternative-procedure checkbox.
When you can countersign
An I-9 can be countersigned only when it is otherwise complete: the worker has finished Section 1, provided every required answer and document, and signed. Calling this endpoint earlier returns a 409, and nothing is changed. Once an I-9 has been countersigned it cannot be countersigned again.
The request applies to the worker's current Form I-9 (the one in effect today, or the next upcoming one).
What goes on the form
| Request field | I-9 field |
|---|---|
additionalInformation | Additional Information |
alternativeProcedureUsed | "Check here if you used an alternative procedure authorized by DHS…" |
authorizedRepresentativeLastName, authorizedRepresentativeFirstName, authorizedRepresentativeTitle | Last Name, First Name and Title of Employer or Authorized Representative |
signature | Signature of Employer or Authorized Representative |
signatureDate | Today's Date (mm/dd/yyyy) |
employerBusinessName | Employer's Business or Organization Name |
employerBusinessAddress | Employer's Business or Organization Address, City or Town, State, ZIP Code |
The I-9 PDF shows exactly the values you send for the representative's name and title, the employer's business name, and the employer's address, rather than the company's details on file. The signature is recorded as the typed text you provide. The "First Day of Employment" on the certification is the worker's hire date.
additionalInformation and alternativeProcedureUsed are optional. If you leave either out, whatever is already on the form is kept. Every other field is required.
